Preston Callander (born May 13, 1980 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who last played for Ässät Pori in the SM-liiga . His father Drew Callander played for several years in Germany for EV Duisburg , SV Bayreuth and Kölner Haie .

Career

Callander began his career as a junior player with the Lincoln Stars in the United States Hockey League . In three seasons for Lincoln, he scored 132 points in 139 games. This was followed by four years at the University of New Hampshire , where he scored a total of 130 points (62 goals, 68 assists) in 149 games for the Wildcats .

His best season was his senior year at university in 2004/05, when the Wildcats reached the Hockey East final and Callander scored 25 goals and 29 assists. This made him the top scorer of the Wildcats and the team's second best scorer.

After this successful season he moved to the DEL to the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg . Even after the Grizzly Adams was excluded from the DEL and downgraded to the 2nd Bundesliga because of the unsuitable stadium at the time, he stayed in Wolfsburg. His contract was later extended to 2008 and the EHC reached the championship of the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2006/07 play-offs and thus acquired the right to promotion to the DEL. However, Callander was classified as too weak for the DEL and the contract with Callander should be terminated. Most recently, however, he was allowed to train with the team again in order to be able to recommend himself for another club.

Finally, Callander was signed to the Florida Everblades in December 2007 . He spent the 2008/09 season at Ässät Pori from the Finnish SM-liiga .
