Pretaapnarian Shawh Radhecheran "Pretaap" Radhakishun (* 1934 , † January 6, 2001 in Paramaribo , Suriname ) was a Surinamese politician .

Life

Radhakishun became Prime Minister of Suriname for the Vooruitstrevende Hervormings Partij (VHP) on July 16, 1986 and held this office until February 12, 1987. From 1988 to 1990 he was Minister for Natural Resources and Energy in the Shankar Cabinet .

In 1996, shortly before the parliamentary elections , he resigned from the VHP and became a member of the Basispartij voor Vernieuwing en Democratie (BVD), a splinter party of the VHP. During the term of office of President Jules Albert Wijdenbosch , he became Vice President on September 20, 1996 and as such was also Chairman of the Council of Ministers until he left on August 12, 2000.

In 2000, one year before the end of the regular term of office, Wijdenbosch was forced to call early new elections. The reason for this was the emerging mass protests due to the poor economic situation in Suriname and the resulting demand for the president to resign. In the elections in May 2000, however, Wijdenbosch lost against the former Radhakishun party, the VHP and against the New Front coalition led by Ronald Venetiaan .

Shortly before Radhakishun's death, President Venetiaan announced that he had directed Wijdenbosch and Radhakishun to account for a secret securities fund of $ 2.5 million in Suriname . While Radhakishun denied having such a fund, Wijdenbosch stated that he would follow the president's instructions.
