The EG 501 Halle was a single example of an electric locomotive that was initially intended to be used for freight train service in the Central German network as part of the Prussian State Railways electrification program .

history

The 1'D1 'electric locomotive with the number EG 501 ordered by the Halle Railway Authority in 1910 was put into operation in the spring of 1912 in the Bw Bitterfeld depot. The first test drives on the Dessau - Bitterfeld route showed that it could not fulfill the planned operating program and that it was not designed to operate well with too few speed steps. Since the engines also became very hot, the side walls were left out for better cooling. The bad experience with this machine meant that the development of other locomotives with the 1'D1 'wheel arrangement was postponed.

The locomotive was then only used in passenger train service, after the cessation of electrical train operations due to the First World War, it was initially shut down, then came to the Breslau Railway Directorate in 1915, which classified it as EP 201 Breslau and finally retired in 1923.
