history

SÜWEDA cable head station at Niederzier comprehensive school

Primacom was created in 1998 from the merger of Kabelmedia and Süweda . After the merger, the group was floated on February 22, 1999 on the Neuer Markt and on the NASDAQ . Since June 5, 2003, the Primacom AG share has been listed in the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange .

In August 2000, Primacom acquired Multikabel in the Netherlands, which was sold to UPC five years later. In September 2007 Orion Cable GmbH acquired almost 91% of the shares in the Primacom Group, with the wish to integrate the company with the Tele-Columbus Group held by Orion Cable at the time. Orion Cable's attempts to integrate were stopped in 2009 by Primacom, as the integration successes at that time were assessed as too low. The halt in integration led to uncertainty among Primacom's banks, which is why refinancing negotiations began in December 2009.

As part of the refinancing negotiations, the operating business of the Primacom Group was acquired by Medfort S.à rl in July 2010. This separated the company's operational business and the company's former holding, Primacom AG (which filed for bankruptcy on June 16, 2010). In January 2011, Primacom successfully completed the refinancing and is concentrating on the further development of the operational business.

The main driver of the core business was the company's existing network. This changed over the years. While the company's core areas of Hessen / Rhineland-Palatinate / Baden-Württemberg and the eastern federal states were initially divided into two core areas, the holdings in the western parts of the Federal Republic were sold to competitors in the following years. In 2008 the networks in Aachen and Wiesbaden were sold to Unitymedia and in 2010 the city networks in Mainz and Osnabrück were sold to Kabel Deutschland . Following the trend of the portfolio development, Primacom began to relocate its headquarters to the eastern federal states and, according to its own statements, finally completed this process in 2011. In the same year, the financial restructuring was completed and Primacom announced ambitious plans for customer growth.

In April 2014, the listing of the former Primacom AG il was revoked on behalf of the insolvency administrator.

On March 17, 2014, the takeover of the smaller competitor Deutsche Telekabel (DTK) was announced. This made Primacom number 4 in Germany behind its direct competitor Tele Columbus and, according to its own statements, the market leader in its core area in Central Germany. The DTK takeover was preceded by a takeover offer from Tele Columbus to Primacom in November 2013, which at the time was clearly rejected by the Primacom management.

On July 16, 2015, the takeover of Primacom by the previous competitor Tele Columbus with the completion date July 31, 2015 was announced.

Since October 4, 2017, Primacom has been marketing its products together with Tele Columbus, HL komm and pepcom in the newly created umbrella brand Pÿur in order to be able to compete against the two large cable network operators Vodafone Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia .

organization

The Primacom Group has been wholly owned by Tele Columbus AG since July 31, 2015. The operative business of the group of companies was managed by the holding company "Primacom Management GmbH". The operational property, plant and equipment as well as rights and licenses and the personnel in the various operational units are managed below the holding company.
