The Thyrrenic Ragwurz ( Ophrys tyrrhena ) is a kind of the genus Ragwurzen ( Ophrys ) in the family of the Orchid Family (Orchidaceae).
Plant description
This herbaceous perennial plant reaches heights of between 15 and 35 cm.
In the inflorescence are two to eight flowers . The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic . The egg-shaped sepals appear mostly whitish to pinkish purple, rarely green. The often hairy petals can be white, pinkish purple or brown, sometimes they also have a dark edge. The dark brown convex lip is short-haired all around and can appear undivided or slightly three-lobed. The hump is either completely absent or very low. At the front it usually looks trimmed and you can see a rather strong, triangular appendage. The time is very variable and usually richly structured. It is gray-brown to dark purple in color and has a light border. The basal calluses are blackish.
The flowering period extends from March to April.
Location and distribution
This species can be found in light forests or on bushy grasslands with dry to fresh soils rich in bases . In the mountains you can find the Tyrrhenian Ragwurz up to a height of 500 m . This orchid is endemic to the west coast of Italy . They were found in the area of the cities of Genoa , Livorno , Siena and Grosseto as well as in the provinces of Latina and Frosinone .
relationship
Under certain circumstances, this species is only a subspecies of Moris' Ragwurz ( Ophrys morisii ). However, this has not yet been investigated in more detail. In addition, similarities to the Aveyron ragwort ( Ophrys aveyronensis ) can be seen.
