Prince's Beach

Prince's Beach ( Gaelic : Coilleag a 'Phrionnsa ) is a sandy beach on the west coast of the Scottish Hebridean island of Eriskay . Prince's Beach is located north of the isthmus that forms the Acairseid Mhor bay, which extends into the island from the east , and about 1.5 km south of the Haun settlement on the north coast of the island. It extends about 600 m along the Atlantic Ocean .

On July 23, 1745, the British Prince Charles Edward Stuart ( Bonnie Prince Charlie ) came from France at Prince's Beach for the first time on Scottish soil. From there he continued his journey to Glenfinnan in the Highlands to lead the Second Jacobite Rising. It is said that the prince himself planted the rare pink winds that can be found on the beach. A small memorial off the beach commemorates the landing of the prince.
