The Prince de Ligne Mountains ( French Monts Prince de Ligne ) are a small mountain group in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . They rise 16 km north of the Belgica Mountains . The highest mountain in the group is Mount Sphinx, 2285 m high .
The mountain range was discovered by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition in 1957/58 under the direction of Gaston de Gerlache de Gomery . He named it after Antoine de Ligne (1925–2005), 13th Prince von Ligne , pilot and photographer on de Gerlache's research trip . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this designation into English in 1962.
