The Pristiapogonini are a tribe of the cardinalfish (Apogonidae) introduced in 2014, which consists of the two genera Pristiapogon and Pristicon . The fish are found near the coast in the Red Sea, on the coast of East Africa, on the west coast of India and on various islands of the Indian Ocean, in the Pacific from Australia to the Philippines to Japan and east to Hawaii and French Polynesia . There is a distribution gap between India and Indonesia.

features

Pristiapogonini species are 8 ( Pristicon rufus ) to 19.6 cm ( Pristiapogon taeniopterus ) long and are moderately elongated to high-backed. The body and head including the cheeks, chest and gill cover as well as the caudal fin base are covered with comb scales. The area in front of the dorsal fin is also scaled and there are two scales at the base of the pelvic fins. Pristiapogon species usually have a single, dark longitudinal stripe and / or a dark spot on the base of the caudal fin. Pristicon species have saddle-shaped spots below the dorsal fins and spots on the base of the caudal fin or on the gill cover. The bone ridge on the preoperculum is smooth, the edges of the preoperculum are sawn. The infraorbitalia (bones around the eyes) have a sawn edge. A basic phenoid is present. On the premaxillary, lower jaw and palate there are brush-shaped teeth that are arranged in one or many rows. Teeth can also be missing on the palatine . There are five free hypuralia in the caudal fin skeleton . The caudal fin is forked.

The first segmented fin ray in the second dorsal fin is branched and the first fin ray of the anal fin is branched and segmented. The fifteen central rays of the caudal fin are segmented and branched, the upper and lower are unbranched. Each lateral line scale has several pores.

Genera and species

The tribe Pristiapogonini includes two genera with a total of eight species:
