Pristiapogon is a genus of cardinalfish (Apogonidae). The fish are found in the coral reefs of the tropical Indo-Pacific at depths of 1 to 150 meters. Like all cardinalfish, they feed on zooplankton and are mouthbrooders . The genus was formerly a sub-genus of Apogon .

Pristiapogon species are small, moderately high-backed fish and grow to be 10 to 15 centimeters long. The first dorsal fin is supported by eight fin rays, the second dorsal fin are supported by nine soft rays. The anal fin is supported by two hard and eight soft rays. Paired uroneuralia are absent. The infraorbitalia (bones around the eyes) have a sawn upper edge. The rear and lower edges of the gill cover are also sawn. The number of gill trap rays is 17 to 23. The palatal teeth are arranged in a row or are absent. The stomach and intestines are light ( both organs in Zoramia are black).
