Erich Klinge (sports scientist)

Erich Klinge (born July 31, 1889 in Berlin , † 1957 ) was a German pedagogue , sports educator and university teacher.

Life

Initially an elementary school teacher, Klinge completed scientific and medical studies. In 1921 he became a lecturer at the German University for Physical Education in Berlin. In 1922 he received his doctorate in Würzburg on sports history as Dr. phil. In 1929 he became a professor at the Pedagogical Academy in Hanover . From 1933 he was head of the German University for Physical Exercise in Berlin-Charlottenburg , from 1936 Director at the University Institute for Physical Exercise in Cologne , and at the beginning of the war in 1939 for a short time at the institute of the same name in Jena . In 1943 he became honorary professor for pedagogy of physical exercise at the University of Vienna . He joined the NSLB on April 1, 1933, and the NSDAP on May 1, 1933 . In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler . In 1946 he was prematurely retired from university service.

After the war, Klinge was on the advisory board of the magazine "Sportmedizin" . In 1955 he was made honorary chairman of the Association of Physical Education .
