Le Prix Kandinsky was a prestigious French art award. It was awarded in Paris between 1946 and 1961 .
history
The award was launched by Nina Kandinsky in memory of her husband Wassily Kandinsky , who died in 1944. Kandinsky was a pioneer of abstract art , the award was intended to promote young painters who worked in the field of abstraction and Informel . The prize was first awarded in 1946 and the jury included Leon Degand , Charles Estienne and Wilhelm Uhde . The first winners of the newly created award were the painters Jean Dewasne and Jean Deyrolle , the last winner in 1961 was the painter Piero Dorazio . An exhibition in the Denise René gallery in Paris was associated with the award ceremonies .

The Prix Kandinsky has nothing to do with the Kandinsky Prize , which has been awarded in Moscow by the Russian ArtChronika Foundation with the support of the Deutsche Bank Group since 2007 .
