Prljavo Kazalište ( Croatian 'dirty theater') is a Croatian and former Yugoslav rock group from the Zagreb working-class district Dubrava.

The rock band was founded in 1977 and, along with Parni Valjak and Crvena Jabuka, was one of the most famous music bands in what was then Yugoslavia. During their development they have changed their musical styles, from punk and ska (in their first albums) to later pop and rock sounds . The group describes political events and the state in the state.

history

The group was founded in 1977 by Jasenko Houra, who was greatly influenced by the 1976 Rolling Stones concert in Zagreb. His first employees were members of the former punk group Ciferšlus (Croatian colloquial for zip ). The group was named after an episode of the Alan Ford comic strip and was now called Prljavo Kazalište . Her first appearance was at the Polets concert in 1978.

In 1979 her first album Prljavo Kazalište was released. The cover is dedicated to the Rolling Stones , showing Jagger's cut tongue and a mouth pierced with a safety pin.

In 1980 the second album Crno Bijeli Svijet ( Black and White World ) came out. The songs Mi Plešemo ( We Dance ) and Crno Bijeli Svijet became evergreens of the domestic pop and rock scene.

In 1988 the album Zaustavite Zemlju ( Stop the Earth ) was released. This album contains the ballad Mojoj Majci ... Ruža Hrvatska ( My mother ... Croatian rose ), which is dedicated to Houra's mother. They risked a lot with this song because the word Croatian was frowned upon at that time. This song made her even more famous domestically.

The big breakthrough came with the legendary concert on October 17, 1989, which took place on Republic Square (today Ban Josip Jelačić Square ) despite a ban by the then government.

In their next albums ( Devedeseta , Lupi Petama ), which were released in 1990 and 1993, they sing about and criticize the situation in Croatian post-war society .

The song Uzalud vam Trud Svirači ( musician, your effort is in vain ) is played with the help of tamburizzas and is dedicated to Slavonia , which has suffered greatly from the war.

In 2001 Sve je lako kad si mlad ( Everything is easy when you are young ), a set of four CDs, was released as an overview of her entire career.

With the last two albums, 2003 Radio Dubrava ( Rundfunk Dubrava ) and 2005 Moj dom je Hrvatska ( My homeland is Croatia ), the group continues its social criticism.
