Procheiros nomos

Procheiros nomos ( Greek  Πρόχειρος νόμος 'handy law', also Latinized Prochiron ) is a middle Byzantine code of the 10th century .

The Procheiros nomos is divided into 40 titles. In his initiation it presents itself as the work of the emperors Basil I , Constantine and Leon VI, who ruled together between 870 and 879 . out; in truth, however, it was not until 907 by Leon VI. promulgates . The Prooimion was from Leon VI. composed. The compiler of the 40 titles is unknown, but Symbatios may have been involved in the preparation.

The purpose of producing the Procheiros nomos was to replace the Eisagogē tou nomou with a new introductory textbook, using this as a basis, but the falsifications and falsifications of the Corpus iuris civilis attributed to the Patriarch Photios were eliminated. 13 chapters of the Procheiros nomos contain new ordinances of Leon VI. This work, which covers most areas of private and criminal law, has come down to us in numerous manuscripts and has served several legal books, e. B. the Prochiron auctum and the Hexabiblos of Konstantinos Harmenopoulos , as models.
