Profanum was a Polish band.

history

Profanum was founded in 1993 by Reyash, Vlad Ysengrimm and Geryon. In 1994 a demo Under a Black Wings of Emperor was released , the songs flowed into the debut album Flowers of My Black Misanthropy , some of the melodies were taken over into the second album Profanum Aeternum: Eminence of Satanic Imperial Art . The group was not only referred to as a "just simply being a total evil band" because of its dark atmosphere, members of the band were accused of various crimes, including church arson and grave desecration, as well as involvement in murders and suicides, for which there was no evidence. Initially, the band played rough black metal with keyboards. The sound of the 1994 demo Under a Black Wings of Emperor was very raw, the production was better on the debut, but drum machines were used. The songs were reminiscent of the Emperor of that time or the atmospheric style of the Polish black metal scene that was usual at the time ; the band itself stated that very obscure, primitive Black Metal such as Samael , Mystifier , Rotting Christ , Varathron and Massacre were the defining elements, but due to a lack of musical skills they were not able to play anything else.

The three musicians founded the black / thrash metal band Witchmaster in 1996 and Profanum was downgraded to a side project when Reyash left, who later also played bass for bands like Incantation and Vader . The group only became active again in 2000.

The last album Musaeum Esotericum contained two pieces, each 20 minutes long, with Latin titles, these were based on classical music and were each divided into three parts (α, β, γ).

In 2005 the band contributed the soundtrack to a short film called Intelekt Kollapse , later the project was put aside.
