Professor Langnickel is an aromatic, fruity cocktail made from kirsch , cherry liqueur and sherry and is one of the short drinks .

history

The cocktail was created in the Hamburg bar Le Lion - Bar de Paris , where the multi-award-winning bartender Mario Kappes first mixed it in early 2008 for a guest and spontaneously named it after him. This guest, Hans Langnickel, was Professor of Social Management at the Lausitz University of Applied Sciences until 2013 and ran a cocktail bar himself in Cologne . The cocktail spread quickly among internationally networked bartenders and is now also mixed abroad.

preparation

For a Professor Langnickel , 3  cl Kirschwasser (originally Morand Kirsch Vieux ), 2 cl Guignolet du Dijon, a slightly sour cherry liqueur (originally Gabriel Boudier ) and 2 cl Pedro Ximénez Sherry (originally Monteagudo ) are mixed in a mixing glass over ice cubes and into a pre-chilled (“frozen”) cocktail bowl strained . A lemon zest is squeezed over the drink so that the oil in the peel wets the surface, but does not add it. A cocktail skewer with three cocktail cherries pickled in cherry brandy serves as decoration .

The cocktail is not to be confused with the classic Professor , which is usually mixed with rhum agricole , port wine , vermouth as well as angostura and orange bitters . Professor Langnickel shows a certain similarity to variants of the Dr. Sack cocktails in which gin is always the basic spirit, but is combined with kirsch , cherry brandy (cherry liqueur) and sometimes sherry. Cherry brandy and liqueur are also occasionally used in a sherry cobbler .
