ProjectLibre is a free project management software .
License & revenue model
ProjectLibre is published under the Common Public Attribution License . The Free Software Foundation recognizes this as a free software license, but it is not GPL- compatible and has only a limited copyleft . The Open Source Initiative recognizes them as an open source license .
ProjectLibre is currently free to download. As soon as a planned server version of ProjectLibre is ready, the developers plan to offer Project Libre and / or ProjectLibre Server as paid software as a service as an alternative to free download , in the sense of a service hosted on their servers.
origin
The original developers of OpenProj had sold their rights to OpenProj as part of a company takeover to Serena Software . OpenProj has not been further developed since then.
After about four years, the original developers decided to develop an OpenProj complementary server, comparable to the server-client ratio of Microsoft Project Server to Microsoft Project . However, as development progressed, they realized that the fact that OpenProj had not been updated in the past four years was problematic for their goal. So they had to postpone the development of the server and first develop an updated version of OpenProj.
This version was then published as a fork with the name ProjectLibre in August 2012 as a separate project. The additional server is currently still in development and will be called ProjectLibre Server .
Description and functions
ProjectLibre is an application written in Java and can therefore be run independently of the platform as a desktop application or in an Internet browser. It is a stand-alone application. However, a server variant called ProjectLibre Server has also been announced by the developers, to which ProjectLibre will be able to connect as a client. ProjectLibre uses network planning technology .
The current version includes the following features:
- Performance analysis
- Gantt charts
- PERT charts
- Resource breakdown structures
- Task usage reports
- Work breakdown structure
- Import and export of Microsoft Project 2010 files
- To press
- PDF export (without restrictions)
- new ribbon user interface
Relationship with Microsoft Project
ProjectLibre is marketed by the developers as a "Microsoft Project replacement". This relates, on the one hand, to the visual and functional imitation of Microsoft Project and, on the other hand, to the ability to open and write Microsoft Project 2010 files. With the latter, depending on the complexity of the files, incompatibilities may arise.
