Proskau Castle was built on the site of a castle in 1563 for Count Georg Proskowski von Proskau in the Renaissance style. It was set on fire by the Swedes in 1644 during the Thirty Years War. From 1677 to 1683 it was rebuilt in the Baroque style under the direction of the Italian master builder Giovanni Seregno . The two towers at the front that still stand today date from this time.

Until 1769 the castle was owned by the Proskowski family . After the death of Count Leopold Proskowski von Proskau, the palace came to the Dietrichstein family in 1769 and in 1783 to the possession of the Prussian King Friedrich II.

Between 1845 and 1847 the interior of the palace was redesigned for the operation of the Proskau Agricultural Academy. After it was moved to Berlin in 1881, it served as an agricultural educational institution until 1923, and from 1930 as a hospital for the mentally handicapped. Today there is a retirement home in the castle. In 2011 it was completely renovated.
