Protein M

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The M protein is a protein of Mycoplasma genitalium , the antibody binds.

properties

Protein M is used for immune evasion and is a virulence factor . The binding of antibodies reduces an antigen-antibody reaction . M protein has 556 amino acids and has low homology to other bacterial antibody-binding proteins such as Protein A , Protein G , Protein A / G or protein L . The N -terminal protein domain of protein M binds to the variable regions of the light chains of human immunoglobulins of all types, while the C -terminal protein domain protrudes somewhat from the molecule and binds to κ or λ light chains of immunoglobulins.
