Protocol ranking in Canada

The protocol order of precedence in Canada is a ceremonial order of precedence.

Heritage Canada publishes an official ranking with the Table of Precedence for Canada . The Queen (Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II ) is not listed in this Table of Precedence for Canada . However, their priority results from a protocol note. The Department of National Defense also issues a protocol-based ranking. The main difference is that the members of the Canadian royal family are included in this.

The ceremonial hierarchy

The ranking is as follows:

  2. Prime Minister (The Right Honorable Justin Trudeau )
  3. Chief Justice (The Right Honorable Richard Wagner )
  4. Former Governors General, in order of tenure:

    3. The Right Honorable Michaëlle Jean (2005-2010)

  6. Former Prime Ministers in order of tenure:

The most politically influential office is that of Prime Minister as head of government, although he is not the first in the protocol rankings.
