Protophysarum phloiogenum is a slime mold from the order of the Physarida and the only species of the genus Protophysarum .
features
The plasmodium is a very small phaneroplasmodium. The tiny sporocarps are stalked and without calcium deposits, the stalks are filled with granules. The delicate peridium is iridescent and permanent. The scalp arises from the base and consists of loosely networked, flattened and translucent to slightly colored tubes that are somewhat thickened at the connecting points. The spores , measuring around 10 micrometers, are dark in mass and purple-brown in transmitted light.
distribution
For a long time Protophysarum phloiogenum was only known from the discovery of the holotype in the USA, then in 1994 it was found on the bark of a tree from central Tunisia. In the meantime, other finds from the USA as well as Kazakhstan , Mongolia , Morocco , Myanmar and Russia have become known.
