Providas romanorum
Providas romanorum is a papal bull by Pope Benedict XIV , which he published on May 18, 1751. The Pope confirms the bull In eminenti apostolatus specula by Pope Clement XII. and, like his predecessor, opposes Freemasonry, he forbids every Catholic Christian to interact with Freemasons .
Excommunication and inquisition
- In the bull he describes the lodges as secret societies, whose assemblies are only intended to expand in all directions and violate the existing laws . Under threat of excommunication , he again underlines the threats made by his predecessor; he calls on all Catholic Christians to refrain from any contact with these sects . The excommunication takes place without further explanation and is valid until death.
- He orders the bishops , the higher priests and the entire clergy to punish all heretical malice in every place and place with the inquisition . The heretics should be arrested and their property should be deprived of them.
