List of papal acts and pronouncements against Freemasonry and secret societies
On 24. June 1717 joined in London four existing for years Masonic lodges to the first Freimaurergroßloge , the first Grand Lodge of England together. The rapid spread of Freemasonry soon provoked criticism and numerous bans from the Catholic Church and the state. Masonry was established in the Kingdom of Naples in 1731, in Poland in 1734, in Holland in 1735, in France in 1737, in Geneva, in Hamburg, in Sweden and by Emperor Charles VI. prohibited in the Austrian Netherlands in 1738 and in Florence in 1739.
