Prudent Bettens (born July 4, 1943 in Waregem ; † September 20, 2010 ibid) was a Belgian football player in the position of a striker , who worked as a football coach after his active career , but was mainly based in amateur football.

Club career

He began his career in late 1959 at the age of 16 with what would later become the D2 and first division club KSV Waregem . With the Flemish he played until the 1972/73 season, in which he was only used seven times. After a total of 295 completed games and 115 goals scored in Derde Class A , the Second League and the Jupiler League , he was looking for a new challenge at Cercle Bruges in 1971 . For this club he was active until 1973 and completed 30 league games there, in which he scored a total of three goals. In the two following seasons he appeared for VG Oostende . The clubs FC Brakel, Avelgem and Lokerse SV are listed as further career stations.

Coaching career

After his career as an active player, he also worked as a trainer for KSV Waregem in 2001 , before it merged with Zultse VV to form Zulte Waregem . FC Brakel, Lokerse SV, SK Roeselare, Zwevegem, Denderhoutem and SK Torhout were other clubs that he looked after in the course of his coaching activities.

National team

The striker made a total of three international matches for the Belgian national team in 1967 and 1968.

Awards

Bettens was voted Player of the Century in Waregem.
