Psalmopoeus plantaris is a species ofarboreal tarantula from Colombia . It was described in 1903 by Reginald Innes Pocock . The holotype is a female spider found in the Departamento del Cauca . The holotype was not soaked in alcohol and has thus been described as a dried specimen. The species has not yet been proven by any other author. To date only the female is known.

features

The female found is 2.3 centimeters long, measured from the biting claws to the spinnerets . The carapace is about as long as the length of the patella and tibia of one leg of the second pair of legs combined. With the four centrally located eyes on the hillock, the front two are about three quarters of their diameter apart. And they are about half their radius from the lateral eyes. The carapace and the top of the limbs of the treadmills and buttons are covered with yellow-greenish, olive-colored hair. The coloring of the Protarsen and Tarsen however, goes to reddish brown. The scopulae (tufts of hair) on the tarsi are very broad. The stridulation organs look similar to those of Psalmopoeus cambridgei . The thorns on the maxillae are fewer (about twelve pieces) and shorter. The spiders have pale pink spots on their tarsi and protarsi. Two similar spots occur on the tibia. The sternum and the underside of the buttons, the first two treads and the opisthosoma are velvety brown to black.

Compared to the related species Psalmopoeus ecclesiasticus and Psalmopoeus cambridgei , the legs have less fringed hair. This species can be distinguished from P. ecclesiasticus by the stridulation bristles. In P. plantaris , in contrast to P. cambridgei, the first pair of legs is shorter than the fourth.
