Pseudeuophrys erratica ( Syn .: Euophrys erratica , Pseudeuophrys callida ) is a species of spider from the genus ( Pseudeuophrys ) in the family of jumping spiders (Salticidae). The species iswidespreadin Central Europe , but not common. It isvery similar to themuch more common Pseudeuophrys lanigera , which occurs mainly in and on houses.

features

The species is one of the smaller jumping spiders. Males have a body length of 3–4 mm, females reach 4–5 mm. Like many jumping spiders, the species shows a clear sexual dimorphism in terms of color and drawing. The front body ( prosoma ) and rear body ( opisthosoma ) of the male are hairy white and brown on the upper side on a black background. The pedipalps are predominantly black, only the femur and patella are hairy whitish. The legs, which are also predominantly black, are ringed whitish, the tarsi are brown and black ringed.

Females are generally lighter brown, the legs are reddish brown and ringed black and white. The pedipalps are monochrome whitish hairy.

distribution and habitat

Pseudeuophrys erratica colonizes large parts of the Palearctic from Ireland and Spain to Japan . The distribution area includes the temperate to subtropical zone. It occurs all over Europe.

The species inhabits moderately dry to dry deciduous and coniferous forests in Central Europe and lives there mainly on and under the bark of dead trees, and less often under stones.

Way of life

Sexually mature animals appear in spring and summer, females also up to autumn.

Danger

The species is widespread in Central Europe but is not found frequently. In Baden-Württemberg, the species is considered to be very rare; classification in a hazard category is not possible due to the poor data situation. In Brandenburg and Berlin, the species is considered to be "moderately common" and not endangered, and in Germany as a whole the species is classified as not endangered.
