The spiny fish ( Ptilichthys goodei ) is a strange fish from the order of the perch-like .

features

It is the only species in the Ptilichthyidae family . The animals have an extremely elongated, up to 33 centimeters long, thin body. They have no scales , no lateral line organ , no caudal and no pelvic fins . On the front part of the back they have 90 single, short spiky rays . This is followed by a dorsal fin supported by 137 to 145 soft rays . The anal fin is supported by 185 to 196 soft rays. Spinefish have 222 to 240 vertebrae.

distribution

Spinefish live at greater depths on the continental shelf in the cold coastal waters of the North Pacific . The distribution area extends from Japan over the Kuril Islands , the Bering Strait to Oregon .
