Puccinia chloracae is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the sunflower genus Viguiera . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. It is common in southwest North America .

Macroscopic features
Puccinia chloracae can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.
Microscopic features
The mycelium of Puccinia chloracae grows as with all Puccinia TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. Your spermogonia grow on both sides of the host leaves. The aecia of the species growing on both sides are cup-shaped and whitish. They have 22–37 × 16–22 µm large, hyaline and spherical to ellipsoidal aeciospores with a warty surface. The uredia growing on both sides of the mushroom are cinnamon brown. Their uredospores, which are also cinnamon-brown, are 26–32 × 19–24 µm in size, ovate to long ellipsoidal and spiky. The bilateral growing parts of the species are black-brown and powdery. The dark maroon teliospores are two-celled, usually ellipsoid to broadly ellipsoid and 36–48 × 26–31 µm in size. Their stalk is colorless to yellowish and up to 250 µm long.

The known distribution area of Puccinia chloracae includes the southwest USA and northwest Mexico .
ecology
The host plants of Puccinia chloracae are Viguiera deltoidea , V. laciniata and V. stenoloba . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species goes through a development cycle with Spermogonia, Aecien, Telien and Uredien, but does not change host.
