The Poodle Pointer is a German breed of dog recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 7, Section 1.1, Standard No. 216 ).

Origin and history

The hunter and cynologist Sigismund Freiherr von Zedlitz und Neukirch (Hegewald) bred this dog from the breeds poodle and pointer with the aim of creating a versatile, rough-haired working dog . The name of the breed is made up of those of the two original breeds. The poodle pointer is rather rare in Germany with between 120 and 200 puppies annually , but it is still stable. As with many hunting and working dogs, in accordance with the relevant breeding rules, breeding in the VDH is only allowed with poodle pointer who have passed a working test (in Germany usually Association Youth Search (VJP) or autumn breeding test (HZP)) and were considered suitable for breeding at a breeding show. Puppies are only given to people who lead the dog for hunting.

In the 1980s, pointers were crossed again in Germany in a targeted manner , before the Pudelpointer association returned to pure breeding in 1990 .
