Puente Alto is a municipality in Chile with 568,094 inhabitants (as of 2017) and is not far from the capital Santiago de Chile . It is located in the Gran Santiago agglomeration . Puente Alto is the capital of the Cordillera Province in the Región Metropolitana de Santiago .
history
The commune was founded at the end of the 19th century under the name Las Arañas .
Puente Alto was founded by decree of January 8, 1898 and was the capital of the Cordillera Province on September 3, 1958.

economy
For the largest paper mill in Chile in the 1930s in Puente Alto, the German company Siemens-Schuckertwerke built a new power plant and modernized the existing power plant. Wine is also grown in the region .
Metro line 4, which connects the city to the capital's network, was completed in March 2006 . A total of five metro stations - Plaza de Punte Alto, Elisa Correa and the three stations in between - are located in the urban area
