Pulsar is a French progressive rock band that was formed in Lyon in the early 1970s .

Band history

Gilbert Gandil, Jacques Roman and Victor Bosch knew each other since the late 1960s, when she in a youth club for playing rhythm-and-blues - cover versions came together. Attending a Pink Floyd concert , however, should have a lasting impact on their musical direction. In the early 1970s they founded Pulsar with Philippe Roman, Roland Richard joined in 1974, and the following year their debut album Pollen was released on the British label Kingdom Records. Although Pulsar were often compared to Pink Floyd, their symphonic progressive rock showed a certain independence through influences from psychedelic rock , space rock and krautrock .

In February 1976 Philippe Roman left the band for health reasons and was replaced by Michel Masson. Recordings for the second album began in April, The Strands of the Future was released in September. With a lot of critical acclaim, 40,000 records sold in six months and a contract with CBS Records , it marked the breakthrough for Pulsar. Her most ambitious work, Halloween , was yet to follow. The album was created under the influence of works by Gustav Mahler and Luchino Visconti and was released in December 1977. A European tour followed.

Louis Paralis has been the bassist since the 1980s. Pulsar began a collaboration with music theater director Bruno Carlucci and adapted Peter Handke's welcome to the supervisory board . After that it became more and more quiet around the band, whose members now increasingly devoted themselves to other musical projects. Pulsar never broke up, however, but came together again and again for performances and released albums again in 1989 and 2007.
