Pumsae (often written Poomse or Poomsae ) are prescribed forms (sequences of movements) in Taekwondo . The Pumsae are part of the examination regulations of the German Taekwondo Union (DTU). They are divided into the two groups “Taegeuk” (1 to 8) and “Yudanja” (9 to 17).
The Taegeuk Pumsae
The first eight forms are called "Taegeuk" (Korean reading for Taiji ). The Taegeuk officially replace the eight Palgwae (Korean version of Bagua ), which were developed in 1967, in the WT since 1971 .

The Yudanja Pumsae
The forms of the second group (forms nine to 17) are relevant for the Dan exams and are called "Yudanja Pumsae". Yudanja means "someone with Dan" (Hangeul 유단자, Hanja 有 段 者).

Free-Style Pumsae
Forms in which the performer himself chooses the step patterns and techniques and combines them with music to create a choreography.
