punch'n'judy are a crossover folk band that was founded in Recklinghausen in 2003 .
history
The project was founded in 2003 by Ute Bogoslaw and Chris Arndt, who were still playing together in another band at the time, but were looking for the opportunity to try out new ideas that musically did not fit into the previous band activities. The project quickly established itself as a band and has been in existence since 2007. After various changes, the current line-up consists of Ute Bogoslaw (accordion), Chris Dreu (electric bass), Andreas Bargel (drums), Sascha Kaeufer (vocals) and Peter Kugelmann ( Guitar).
In 2018 the collaboration with Laetitium - artist and culture management was established. punch'n'judy work again and again with various labels, but are not firmly connected to one.
Surname
The band owes its name to a traditional form of puppet theater ( Punch and Judy ) , which is mainly known in England .
style
music
The music reflects the influences of the individual musicians. Often things get tougher and the influence of metal can be seen again and again. The accordion melodies bring in the folk, whereby the accordion always represents the lead instrument and thus clearly defines the sound of punch'n'judy. punch'n'judy describe their music as crossover folk. The music is often associated with the Middle Ages.

The texts are largely about fantasy stories, with historical figures appearing again and again, such as Grace O'Malley or Klaus Störtebeker .
