Matrix Bochum (2008)

The Matrix is a music club in the Langendreer district of Bochum . It emerged in 2000 from the “Rockpalast” discotheque, which opened in 1978, and in 2020 saw a change of operator and concept. Club events, concerts and external events take place there.

history

The club is located on one of Langendreer's main thoroughfares in an eleven-story, former refrigerated ship of a brewery building built in 1806, which was the main location of the Müser brewery for a long time and which still shapes the image of the Langendreer district today (“ brewhouse ”). The building complex was first used as a discotheque on November 1, 1978, when the “Rockpalast” discotheque moved in, which gained national fame, especially in the rock scene. The founder was the soccer player Rolf Blau .

After Blau handed over the discotheque to his former employee in 1998, the concept changed in 2000 and the dance hall was renamed Matrix . The Matrix Bochum was the largest discotheque in Bochum. She became known nationwide among fans of certain music and scene directions, such as the black scene . The "Rockpalast" remained, and the music played was only expanded. In addition, four more halls, all of which previously served as a warehouse for the brewery, were opened up for the disco. There is also a bistro café.

At the end of 2019, Matrix Bochum announced that it would cease its disco operations. Under new management, a new beginning took place in 2020 with a focus on electronic music . According to the operator's plan, the club should only open on special dates. The boathouse club was named as a model . Concerts under the title “Concerts and Rock Events” are running parallel to this in the Matrix.
