The peninsula Punta de la Orchilla , Punta Orchilla or Cabo de Orchilla is the westernmost point of the Canary Island El Hierro and therefore Spain . It is located in the municipality of El Pinar .

As the westernmost point of the known world of antiquity, the Canary Islands were set as a reference point around 100. With the rediscovery of the Canaries in the 14th century, this was taken up again and the Ferro meridian was set as the prime meridian at this point in 1634 . In 1885 it was replaced by the Greenwich zero meridian. Since 1988 a memorial near the lighthouse has been commemorating the former prime meridian at this point.

The European long-distance hiking trail E7 begins on the peninsula and extends to the Black Sea .
