Puppenjungs - The Haarmann case is a TV docudrama by director Nils Loof that was shot in 2009 after two years of preparation in Hanover and the surrounding area.
action
Fritz Haarmann was one of the most notorious serial killers of the 20th century. At the beginning of the twenties he was up to mischief in the winding streets of Hanover's old town. The "werewolf" killed at least 27 people by biting the larynx. Haarmann's victims: Young men between eleven and twenty-three years of age, for Haarmann no more than “doll boys”.
Nils Loof's film examines the complex criminal case. The focus is on a city-known trader and police spy, a morally neglected boy who has long since lost his innocence, an angry philosopher who fights against the windmills of justice, and a city that looks the other way, which does not want to admit the obvious. One thing is certain: whether the police, doctors, neighbors or family, each of them is guilty in some way.
layout
The film mixes storylines with documentary recordings, interviews with experts and contemporary witnesses. The descriptions of the contemporary witness and documentarist Theodor Lessing and a computer animation, which illustrates the case from the point of view of the police, run through the film as a red thread .
background
The team of authors Nils Loof, Tobias Premper and Maimona Id researched for the film for over two years. Although the Haarmann case was dealt with very well, in 2009 all the facts were still not gathered. During this work they found the first photos of Hans Grans after his conviction in 1924. Grans grave was also discovered in the Seelhorster cemetery in Hanover.
