General

The platform of the Pushkinskaya metro station is 51 meters below the surface and is the lowest station on the line. Access to the metro station is in the historic Moscow city center at the eponymous Pushkin Square, which is at the intersection of the northern boulevard ring with the important arterial road Tverskaya is formed. In the Moscow metro system, Pushkinskaya is part of a heavily used interchange consisting of a total of three stations, which include Pushkinskaya, Tverskaya subway station on the "green" Samoskvorezkaya line and Chekhovskaya subway station on the "gray" Serpukhovsko-Timirjasewskaya line .

The subway station has two separate entrances on the north and south side of Pushkin Square. The north entrance is located in a widely branched pedestrian underpass, the stairs of which lead, for example, directly to the boulevard ring and the Pushkin monument there, but also to Tverskaya Street in the immediate vicinity of the Yelissejew delicatessen store . There is also an exit from the counter hall equipped with escalators into the building of the editorial office of the Izvestia daily newspaper . The counter hall of the north entrance serves as access to both Pushkinskaya and Tverskaya subway station ; Escalators lead to both from there. The south entrance, which also serves as the entrance to the Chekhovskaya station, is also integrated into a pedestrian underpass, which is located below the boulevard ring and has exits on both sides.

The Pushkinskaya station has a simple, double-track design in the platform area. From the platform in its central area, bridges over the tracks lead to direct crossings to Tverskaya and Chekhovskaya. The crossings with escalator shafts beginning at both platform ends lead to the two ticket halls in the exit area.

architecture

The underground station has no above-ground vestibule; both counter halls one level below the ground have a functional and architecturally insignificant shape.

The central platform is visually divided into three parts; the wider central platform hall is bordered on both sides by an arcade-like row of white marble columns and is closed off at the vault by bronze chandeliers in the form of candlesticks typical of orthodox churches. The entire platform hall is clad in white on both the exterior and interior walls, and the floor is made of light gray granodiorite slabs .

In connection with the Russian national poet Alexander Pushkin , in whose honor Pushkin Square above the subway station is named, four brass plaques with embossed stylized motifs from the life and work of the poet were placed on the outer walls of the platform hall above the tracks ( including historical images of the cities of Moscow , Saint Petersburg , the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum and quotations from well-known Pushkin poems). There is also a Pushkin bust in the exit area at the southern end of the platform.

Until 1990, the Tverskaya station was still called Gorkovskaya , which means that all three subway stations in the transfer hub under Pushkin Square were named after famous Russian authors (Pushkin, Gorky and Chekhov ), which was not only true in Moscow, but also in the entire Soviet Union at that time (in which it was quite common to name subway stations after famous personalities) represented a unique constellation.
