Pyay ( Burmese ပြည်မြို့ , BGN / PCGN : pyimyo; formerly Prome ) is a city in Myanmar . She belongs to the Bago division . According to a census, the city had 83,000 inhabitants in 1983, and in 2005 the population was estimated at 135,000.

Pyay is located 290 kilometers north of the former Myanmar capital Yangon at a bend in the Irrawaddy .
