Pygmaeocereus is a genus of plants from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek adjective "πυγμαίος" (pygmaeos) for dwarf and means dwarf cereus .
description
The small, single to cushion-forming species of the genus Pygmaeocereus usually have fleshy roots . Their green, spherical shoots reach a diameter of 1 to 5 centimeters. The 8 to 15 ribs often form warts. The areoles are round to oblong and woolly. Several, often radiating spines up to 5 millimeters in length arise from them , which are usually pronounced central and radial spines .
The broad, funnel-shaped flowers are white, are up to 6 centimeters in diameter and 8 centimeters long and open at night. Your flower tube is long and slender.
The fleshy fruits are spherical to pear-shaped and tear open lengthways or dry as a whole. They contain bag-shaped, matt brown-black seeds .
Systematics and distribution
The species of the genus Pygmaeocereus are common in Peru . The first description of the genus was made in 1957 by Joseph Harry Johnson and Curt Backeberg .

- Pygmaeocereus familiaris F. Knight
Lothar Diers 2007 was pygmaeocereus bieblii var. Kuehhasii a variety of pygmaeocereus bieblii rewritten.
