The Pyhäjärvi is a lake in the Finnish landscape Satakunta and Southwest Finland .
Pyhäjärvi is located in southwest Finland, about 80 kilometers north of Turku . The lake is mainly located in the municipality of Säkylä . The north-western part of the lake belongs to the municipality of Eura , the southern part to the municipality of Pöytyä (former municipality of Yläne ). The parish village of Säkylä is located on the eastern shore of the lake . The church villages of Eura and Yläne are each a few kilometers north and south of the Pyhäjärvi.
It is over 25 kilometers long in north-south direction and a maximum of eight kilometers wide. Its area is 155.2 square kilometers. The volume is only small at 0.85 cubic kilometers, which is due to the shallow depth of the lake. More than 60 percent of the lake is between four and seven meters deep.
Pyhäjärvi is the largest lake in the otherwise poorly-laked southwestern Finland. The lake has noticeably few islands and bays, but is largely an open basin. While it only ranks 29th among the largest lakes in Finland, the Pyhäjärvi is one of the largest open lake areas in the country. Although the lake is affected by eutrophication , it is considered good fishing water.
The Pyhäjärvi takes on two smaller rivers: the Yläneenjoki in the south and the Pyhäjoki in the east . In the north, the Eurajoki river flows from the 46-meter-high lake and drains it to the Gulf of Bothnia .
