As pyoderma refers to a burning, purulent inflammation of the skin . Most commonly, this is caused in humans by β-hemolytic streptococci and staphylococci ( Staphylococcus aureus ) known as pus bacteria .
Different layers of the skin can be affected. A distinction is made according to the extent of the affected skin layers:
- Oberflächenpyodermie ( surface pyoderma ): Here are only the top layers of the epidermis affected. Special forms are intertrigo (skin fold dermatitis), the Pyotraumatische dermatitis ( hot spot ), the bacterial relocation of the skin ( bacterial overgrowth syndrome ) and mucocutaneous pyoderma .
- Superficial pyoderma: This also affects deeper layers of the epidermis, especially those in the area of the hair follicles , but the infection remains above the basal lamina . Special forms are impetigo , bullous impetigo and superficial bacterial folliculitis .
- Deep pyoderma: This also leads to an infection of the dermis or even the subcutis : deep folliculitis , furunculosis , cellulitis .
