The Pyrenean buttercup ( Ranunculus pyrenaeus ) is a species of the genus buttercup ( Ranunculus ).
features
Ranunculus pyrenaeus is a perennial, herbaceous plant that usually reaches heights of 5 to 15 centimeters. The leaves are entire. The basal leaves are not divided. Your leaf blade is linear to lanceolate, grassy and glabrous. The stem leaves do not encompass the stem. The one to three flowered plant has hairless flower stalks . The flowering period extends from May to July.
The Pyrenean buttercup is diploid and tetraploid, so its chromosome number is 2n = 16 or 32.
Subspecies
Ranunculus pyrenaeus subsp. angustifolius (DC.) Rouy & Fouc. (Syn. Ranunculus angustifolius DC. ) Is smaller, always single-flowered, is diploid.
Possible confusion
The similar Ranunculus kuepferi Greuter & Burdet (Syn. Ranunculus pyrenaeus subsp. Plantagineus (All.) Rouy & Fouc. ), A robust, to ten-flowered plant with a height of 5 to 30 (sometimes 40) centimeters, has wider leaves and often branched stems with hairy peduncles above .
Occurrence
Ranunculus pyrenaeus occurs in France and Spain, in the Pyrenees on moist lawns.
Ranunculus kuepferi can be found in Corsica and in the Alps in similar locations.

The Pyrenean buttercup is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens. The species has been in culture at least since 1807.
