Pyrenea
Pyrenea ( Pyrénée ) is a 48-page comic by the French cartoonists Loisel and Philippe Sternis from 1998. The comic was published in French , Dutch and German . In Germany it was published in 1999 by Egmont Ehapa Verlag . The translation is by Paul Derouet and Hartmut Becker . The story can be assigned to the genres of adventure and fantasy .
In 2000, the comic from the Erlangen Comic Salon was nominated for the Max and Moritz Prize , along with four others, in the “Best German-language children's and youth comic” category.

During an earthquake , a circus bear escapes from its familiar surroundings. On his escape, he finds a little girl whose mother is buried under the rubble of a house. He takes the girl to the Pyrenees . The bear names the little ones Pyrenea and raises them. He is helped by a fox who regularly provides the girl with animals it has caught.
Over the years, however, the differences between bears and humans become too great. The bear is aware of this, but does not want to hurt Pyrenea and sends her to the old man, a hermit , so that he can explain to her what a person is. However, she only meets his friend, an old blind eagle . This encourages them to deal with philosophical questions and ultimately leads them to a human skeleton. This is the beginning of Pyrenea's incarnation and after a long cold winter together with the eagle, in which Pyrenea tells everything he knows about people, she meets her friend the bear one last time before she sets out to look for other people .
Literary role model
The literary model of the comic is obviously The Jungle Book by British author Rudyard Kipling . This and its sequel, The Second Jungle Book, are collections of stories and poems in which the growing up of the human child Mowgli among wolves is the focus.
