Pyttipanna even pytt i panna ( "tiny in the pan") finnish pyttipannu , Norwegian pytt i panne , is a leftovers of Swedish cuisine . In Denmark , a similar dish is known as biksemad .

To prepare it, boiled potatoes , onions and bacon , sausage or roast meat are cut into small cubes, fried in a pan until golden and seasoned with salt and pepper. Usually a fried egg is added to the pyttipanna, and slices of preserved beetroot are often served as a side dish . Various recipes use additional ingredients, such as carrots or beans .

The dish is now available in many Finnish and Swedish supermarkets as a frozen ready- to- eat meal. It became better known in Germany since the furniture store Ikea has been offering Pyttipanna in its restaurants and shops.
