The Qorghas ( Kazakh Қорғас ; Russian Хоргос Chorgos ) is a right tributary of the Ili on the Chinese - Kazakh border.
The Qorghas forms the outflow of the mountain lake Qasanköl in the Beshintau south of the Djungarian Alatau in the Panfilow administrative district ( Almaty region ) in Kazakhstan. From there it flows mainly in a southerly direction. After about 20 km it reaches the state border with China and flows the remaining 160 km up to its confluence with the Ili along the border. The area east of the border belongs to Huocheng County in Ili Autonomous District . When it leaves the mountains, the river forms an alluvial cone . At the Kazakh settlement of Qorghas , a road leads across the river to the city of Korgas in China .
