Qualifications framework for the Swiss higher education sector

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The qualifications framework for the Swiss higher education sector ( nqf.ch-HS ) defines the qualifications and levels of higher education in Switzerland as part of the Bologna process . It is the national implementation of the Qualifications Framework for the European Higher Education Area QF-EHEA of the predecessor of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQR LLL) . For the area of vocational education and training, the EQF LLL has been implemented in Switzerland as the National Qualifications Framework for Vocational Education and Training. Both have so far existed independently of one another, the later creation of an overall framework is not excluded, but at the moment there is neither a necessity nor a political mandate.

The qualifications framework for the Swiss higher education sector comprises levels 1 ( Bachelor ), 2 ( Master ) and 3 ( Doctorate ) and parts of further training , which are usually arranged consecutively . There the following five items are described:

  • so-called generic descriptors, which define learning outcomes to be achieved in the three levels (knowledge and understanding, application of knowledge and understanding, judgment, communication skills, self-learning ability)
  • Conditions of admission
  • ECTS credits
  • degrees

The transfers from Bachelor's to Master's courses of another type of university, which were regulated in an agreement from 2007, are also presented.

The nqf.ch-HS was approved on November 23, 2009 by the steering committee of the three rectors' conferences at the time (the CRUS , the COHEP and the KFH , now merged as swissuniversities ). On June 30, 2011, it was approved by the Swiss University Conference , insofar as it affects the Swiss universities . This organization was declared responsible because the cantons of Switzerland are primarily responsible for these regulations and swissuniversities has a coordinating function.
