Quardeel

The Quardeel (also in the form Quarteel ) is an old degree to which Tran - and bacon amounts whale have been specified. A quardeel is the equivalent of two barrels between 200 and 226 pounds.

history

Quardeel, also known as Cordehl in dialect , was originally considered the Dutch measure of capacity of the 17th and 18th centuries. In the north German coastal area it was equivalent to 216 pounds, which is about 101 kg according to today's weight. In the Krünitz Encyclopedia of 1838 it says: " Quartel, Quarteel, on Greenland voyagers is a large barrel with iron straps in which the bacon cut into pieces is packed. A quartel holds 2 tons there, the barrel is calculated at 224 pounds." Also Pierer's Universal-Lexikon of 1859 expects the section coins & Measurements. Weights : " 1 Quarteel is 2 Hamburger Thrantons"
