Queen's Park (Toronto Subway)
Queen's Park is an underground subway station in Toronto . It lies on the Yonge-University line of the Toronto Subway , at the intersection of University Avenue and College Street. It is named after the nearby Queen's Park . The station has a central platform and is used by an average of 48,070 passengers every day (2015). Nearby are the Ontario Parliament House , Toronto General Hospital and the southeastern part of the University of Toronto . There are transfer options to three bus lines and to tram line 506.
The station opened on February 28, 1963, along with the Union - St. George section . However, it did not reach its full market value until three years later with the opening of the Bloor-Danforth Line crossing in St. George . In the first few years, the capacity utilization was lower than originally forecast. For this reason, operations were restricted, especially on weekends; it has only been continuous on the entire route since 1978.
The distribution level has been decorated with a ceramic mural since 2003 . It is a gift from the Government of Portugal and recalls the Portuguese voyages of discovery in the New World . It was designed by Ana Vilel, manufactured by the Fábrica de Cerâmica da Viúva Lamego in Lisbon .
