The Quelle AG was an Austrian mail order company based in Linz .

History Quelle – Linz

In 1959, the mail order company Quelle in Fürth founded the first foreign subsidiary in Vöcklabruck . The six employees achieved a turnover of 6 million schillings in the first year (the equivalent of 436,000 euros). From 1960, Quelle department stores were opened in Graz and Linz and technical customer service was established. The dispatch center had been in Linz not far from the commercial port since 1965 , employed 400 people and had its own zip code . In 1968 the turnover was more than a billion schillings and in 1974/75 around 2.2 billion schillings. The first Quelle shop was opened in 1994 and all 14 Quelle department stores were sold to Woolworth in the same year . In 1997 the company website quelle.at was launched.

In 1998 Quelle Germany merged with Karstadt and the subsidiary Neckermann to form KarstadtQuelle AG . 2007 KarstadtQuelle is taken over by Arcandor . From then on, the parent company struggled with falling sales. Arcandor filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and due to the dependency, Quelle Austria also had to file for bankruptcy in November 2009. It was dissolved in 2010. Around 1,100 employees were released. In 2010 Otto Versand secured the global trademark rights for Quelle.

In November 2010, the last step in the bankruptcy procedure was the sale of the site with 52,000 m 2 of usable building space on Industriezeile in Linz in favor of the Association for the Promotion of Work and Employment (FAB), part of the BBRZ Group. As of 2011 there will be 350 jobs in the industrial park for employees with disabilities and participants in work integration programs.

Re-establishment of Quelle – Salzburg

The new company Quelle GmbH in Salzburg was founded in the first quarter of 2011 by Otto Versand . The company is assigned to the Baur Group in the Otto Group and belongs to its Austrian subsidiary Unito.
