Swell:

The Brühl-Vochem – Cologne-Godorf Hafen railway line, also known as the “Querbahn”, is a railway line operated by the Ports and Freight Transport Cologne (HGK), which connects the cities of Brühl and Wesseling between Cologne and Bonn . In addition to freight transport, it is also used for operating trams for the Cologne transport company . The line was part of the main network of the Cologne-Bonn Railways (KBE).

The transverse railway was built in the winter of 1901 by Havestadt & Contag on behalf of the then Cöln-Bonner Kreisbahnen (later KBE) to connect the foothill railway near Vochem with the port of Wesseling Rheinwerft . Taking into account the different gauges of the foothills of the mountains and the Rheinuferbahn , which is currently being planned , the line was built with three- rail tracks for meter and standard gauge . The line was opened with a connection to the state railway on March 31, 1901, the "Wesseling Rheinwerft" reloading station went into operation with a delay on November 19, 1901.

From 1917 the narrow-gauge tracks were dismantled, and in 1920 the double-track expansion and electrification began . To eliminate the height same junction with the Rhine railway was this laid in Wesseling in 1927, which on the one hand the transverse web a height free received intersection and also space for expansion of the port and the local railway facilities was created in 1922 began and was completed 1928th

On May 30, 1981, the last scheduled passenger train ran on the cross line. Since then, the route has been used exclusively by freight traffic and by trains on line 18 arriving and departing from the Wesseling depot. When a large number of participants had to be transported from Bonn to Brühl for the closing event of World Youth Day 2005 on Marienfeld near Frechen , reinforcement trains were deployed parallel to line 18, coming from Bonn without stopping via the Rheinuferbahn (line 16) and the cross line to Brühl and drove back.
