Quercus Cabo Verde is a Cape Verdean non-governmental organization in the field of environmental protection . It is based in the capital Praia . In its logo , the club bears the typical kingfisher, the gray headed tuft .

Quercus Cabo Verde is considered the first independent environmental protection organization in the country.

history

The association presented itself to the public for the first time on February 17, 2016 at 6 p.m., in the Assembleia Nacional , the Cape Verdean parliament . Also present as a guest was João Branco, President of the Portuguese environmental protection organization Quercus , who gave a welcoming address. Quercus Cabo Verde received the offer of close partnership from its Portuguese sister organization.

The Cape Verdean Ministry of the Environment also promised to support the organization. Environment Minister Antero Veiga welcomed the initiative as part of the necessary efforts to develop environmental protection in Cape Verde.

aims

The association wants to contribute to the further development of Cape Verdean society. His goals are the promotion of waste prevention , the creation of awareness for environmental protection, the identification and naming of essential threats to the environment and nature of the Cape Verde Islands , the promotion of awareness for the rural regions, and the promotion of alternative energies and alternative social Projects with a lower impact on the environment.
